Where it all began.

BEFORE TVATI, THERE WAS TE VAIRAKAU ATI.

Tvati’s story begins in the Cook Islands, with traditional Māori plant knowledge passed through generations and a preparation known as Te Vairakau Ati.

Sea hibiscus and coconut sit at the heart of that heritage. Today, Tvati carries those roots forward through modern research, refinement and controlled production.

GENERATIONS OF KNOWLEDGE

Traditional Cook Islands plant practice forms the foundation of the Tvati story. Knowledge of native botanicals and their preparation has been passed through generations, long before the research that would eventually shape Tvati.

ROOTED IN RAROTONGA

The sea hibiscus at the heart of Tvati is grown, harvested and processed in the Cook Islands, preserving a direct connection between the modern formula and the place where its story began.

THE ROOTS NEVER MOVED

Tvati may have evolved through years of research, refinement and modern production, but its origins remain firmly in the Cook Islands. The plants, knowledge and heritage that inspired the formula are still central to what Tvati is today.

THE PEOPLE + THE KOUTU NUI

BUILT ON KNOWLEDGE.
CARRIED FORWARD BY PEOPLE.

Tvati brings together Cook Islands heritage, medical and biomedical research, veterinary expertise and commercial experience, all connected by the same ambition: to carry an extraordinary traditional preparation forward responsibly.

FROM TRADITION TO EVIDENCE.

RESEARCHED. PATENTED. REFINED FOR CONSISTENCY.

The traditional preparation raised the question. Dr Graham Matheson’s research at the University of New South Wales set out to investigate it scientifically, exploring its effects across bone, cartilage and soft tissue models and ultimately helping shape the formulation behind Tvati today.

PhD RESEARCH.
MEASURABLE RESULTS.

Dr Graham Matheson’s doctoral research at UNSW in Australia investigated the traditional preparation using preclinical models. The research reported new bone formation from the first week, cartilage outcomes in treated models at eight weeks that were comparable with twelve-week controls, and effects observed away from the original application site.

RESEARCH THAT BECAME
PATENTED INNOVATION.

The work did not stop at observation. Research into the botanical, its preparation and topical delivery informed intellectual property now protected across multiple international territories, including the United States, Europe and Australia.

Traditional knowledge gave Tvati its starting point. Research created something that could be defined, protected and developed further.

FROM PREPARATION
TO CONSISTENT FORMULA.

Traditional plant preparations naturally vary. The research behind Tvati helped shape its extraction, concentration and controlled production, transforming that original knowledge into a repeatable modern topical formulation.

Today, the formula centres on Cook Islands Hibiscus tiliaceus bark extract and organic coconut oil, combining a defined botanical ingredient with an oil-based topical delivery system.

Sustainability.

TAKE ONLY WHAT’S NEEDED.

Tvati’s sea hibiscus is grown and harvested in the Cook Islands with a simple principle: take only what is needed, and respect what remains.

Careful harvesting helps protect the plants, the surrounding environment and the natural resource that has supported generations of traditional Cook Islands knowledge.

HARVESTED WITH CARE

Only what is required is taken from each plant.

ROOTED IN THE COOK ISLANDS

Grown, harvested and processed close to where the story began.

RESPECT FOR WHAT COMES NEXT

A considered approach designed to preserve the plant, its environment and its place in Cook Islands heritage.
